I love this photo!!! Love the makeshift answer to a leaky roof and the books piled up. Trying to figure out what is in his mouth and what he is doing with his hand..Looks like he was holding onto a long pipe that has been erased.
I would say clinical thermometer :-). Or maybe he is chewing his pencil.
I thought the same-but then there is the question of why his hand is in that strange position. More important matters to worry about in this world, I guess, but still, it looks like something has been removed from the original! At any rate, I love this painting…Looks so cozy.
